VENN (2020) unique cyanotype on paper (11x17)

Venn is a cyanotype made after recovery. Cyanotypes are an early photographic technology invented in the 1800’s by astronomer Sir John Herschel noted for its blue color. One summer, feeling strong at last, I allowed myself the experience of recovery and made a Venn diagram, showing commonality by comparing two sets. I think the image resembles a set of magician rings, which link up and pull apart again as if by some miracle.” - Jeanne Liotta, Cancer Survivor and Healing Art Advocate

HEAL (2014) watercolor on paper (6.5 x 8.5)

Heal is a watercolor made during treatment, inspired by: a candle shaped like a female body, a smooth black stone, a smooth white stone, and my doctor’s phrase that ‘chemo would melt my tumor’ and that ‘this terrifying episode would someday be just a blip in my life’. I made this as a personal diagram of hope and transformation. I looked at it everyday, and now I am sharing it with you.” - Jeanne Liotta, Cancer Survivor and Healing Art Advocate
