Old mill road recording wins international prize for its studio design
Old Mill Road Recording, the new state-of-the-art destination recording studio in East Arlington, Vermont, received the prestigious TEC AWARD from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) for Best “Studio Design Project” on January 18, 2020. The NAMM TEC Awards, hosted in Anaheim, California, are internationally-recognized as the highest achievement in professional audio and sound production – and honor the most outstanding products in the world of music-making, live performance, video games, television, and film.
The 35th annual TEC Awards were hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Fred Armisen. The legendary Joni Mitchell received the prestigious “Les Paul Innovation Award”. Pianist/Composer Herbie Hancock, a longtime friend of Ms. Mitchell, presented her with the award. Other winners this year included 20th Century Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody for Best “Film Sound Production,” Warner Brothers’ A Star Is Born for Best “Record Production / Album”, Marvel’s Spider-Man for Best “Interactive Entertainment Sound Production”, Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy for “Best Record Production / Single or Track”, Paul McCartney’s Freshen Up for Best “Tour / Event Sound Production” and HBO’s Game of Thrones for Best “Television Sound Production.”
When Old Mill Road Recording was announced as the winner for Best Studio Design Project, Dr. Joshua Sherman (the studio’s owner) ran to – and jumped up on – the stage. He commented, to great applause, “I always watch these award shows at home – and I never understand why everybody walks so slowly to the stage. If you win, you want to run!” In his acceptance speech, Sherman (who has produced dozens of TONY® Award Winners both on stage and on record) shared, “We wanted to create a space where artists would be inspired – and where the experience of collaborating and making music would be a joy.” Old Mill Road Recording’s In-house GRAMMY® Award Winning Engineer, Benjamin J. Arrindell (who has 30+ years of experience recording and mixing for notable artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Mary J. Blige, Yolanda Adams, Janet Jackson, and Busta Rhymes, among others), thanked all of the skilled Vermont contractors who worked tirelessly to make the “dream studio” a reality. Acoustic Designer Francis Manzella rounded out the trio on stage, giving personal thanks to his wife.
